It has been a long time and I have done a lot. I stripped the bike, painted the frame, put on flatslide carburetors, and a few other things. I am stripping the fairings down for a repaint. The chips are all sanded out, the minor cracks from 19 year old fairings was repaired. I also filled the front blinker holes. I don't know what I will do or if I will even replace the blinkers with something tidy. ( my bike is all dusty from the sanding.)
Anyway, the front fairing mirror bracket was a pain to deal with when I would take the tank off. So I modified it and had the mirror stay sit below the tank and I made some quick release sprint loaded things to hold the tank down.
I still wasn't happy with it. I wanted to not have the fairing stay, but I like my mirrors and don't want a bike with those stupid ones on the bar ends. I think they look ridiculous. I got a 1/4 inch bar of aluminum and started making this.

It took quite a bit of thinking and I used a hammer to hit it in the right spots. ;) I can't explain better than that. You have to know how metal works to get it to bend the right way. Then I had to angle the ends out. The fairing isn't vertical where the mirrors attach.



If I had to do it again I would use the tool I made. I took a 1-2-3 block and put it in my vise threaded screws in and it made it much easier to bent than with the hammer.


On the mount I annealed the the aluminum with a propane torch to keep it from cracking. Worked just fine, You can bend it about 60 degrees before you need to anneal it.
